A Crown Royal Season

This page is mainly for the team who made 2018 happen. Hopefully the HSMS fans will appreciate the group effort to the championship. Race hard, party hard. HIGH SPEED!

Back from the topend, waiting to enter the staging lanes for the trophy presentation.

Proud husband Cole Coonce.

Why so many Winners Circle photos? To make sure every team member is included.

Donnie Ho, Sean Bellemeur, Walt Stevens, Frank Hedge, Rick Shelar Mendy and Tom.

Arguably the HSMS "team" is one of the largest single car teams in all of drag racing. There is the core team, the family team, the go-back-in-time team ... you get the picture. What started with Frank Hedge, Walt Stevens and Tom Shelar 18 years ago has grown into a juggernaut NTF operation. The history is extensive and not a topic for here. It is documented within this website. Race Coverage from 2004

Let the Crown Royal begin.

Pretty much the whole fam damly.

Rick and Tom - the brothers make it happen.

Andy Koski, Viki Hucke McCright, Tami Hucke Norgrove, Cam Westover, Mendy, Buzz Baylis, Nancy Koski, Steven McGogh and Dianna Waite

Tom, Rebecca and Frankie Hedge, Frank and Ruthie Hedge, Mendy and Donnie.

Where it started, Walt, Tom and Frank.

Some girls like diamonds, Mendy prefers gold.

Mark Gewertz, a Mendy fan, was on hand for NHRA National Dragster.

Media was well represented.

Rick Shelar and Don Ewald

Matthew, Eric and Alanna

A Shelar sibling moment. Sister Carol Dobson with the three brothers, Rick, Larry and Tom.

Intern gets baptized.

HSMS vet Arlene Eliason is loving Wally.

Viki Hucke McCright, Tami Hucke Norgrove and Mendy reminiscing when their dads were racing.

Pretty sure this is a first. Not a snow angel here, but rather a Starting line, nitro, rubber and VHT angel.

Terri Youngblood was all in.

This may be the most special photo of the lot. Mendy went into the in-need-of-repairs "Famoso Grove" to take this shot with a plaque honoring her late father who set the stage for her career.

Friends for over 17 years, "The Kids" both had a dream season. Sean dominated the NHRA Top Alcohol Funny Car class taking home 5 Wally's and a World Championship. Mendy's season is well documented. Both got their nitro driving careers started with High Speed Motorsports.

Walt and Maria Stevens.

Kenny Youngblood gets in on the act.

Rick Bucher was all in.

Kyle and Amanda Wakefield

By the time the team took the stage for the event win, well, much Crown and Coors had been consumed.

Darrell Reid, Mendy, Tom, Al Renteria Jr and Jake Dungan.

Amanda Wakefield was injector girl.

Donnie Ho was blindsided when Tom gave him the CHRR Wally. A long time crew member who deserved the gesture.

I'll drink to that! Bring on 2019.

As a postscript, the official NHRA Championship presentation took place at Pomona during the NHRA World Finals. Fry, along with all the other 2018 Hot Rod Heritage Series champions were recognized on stage and rewarded with championship jackets.

Mendy and Cole

Champions beget champions. Don Prudhomme and Roland Leong.

So ends a dream season. The entire High Speed Motorsports team thanks the manufacturers who support us, the fans who have cheered them on and each other. See everyone in March.
