ROUND ONE OF ELIMINATIONS
Fry's E1 opponent was
Julius Hughes. Having lane choice, Shelar chose the left.
HSMS photog Arlene Eliason and
the irrepressible Walt Stevens who was waiting to guide Mendy
Fry back from her burnout.
Hughes did his job welding a
cautious Fry to the tree (0.043 to a 0.235) but that was erased
soon after the 60' mark.

Fry made a huge statement carding
a 5.688 at 243.63. Hughes got his money's worth running a 6.333
at 231.48.

ROUND TWO OF ELIMINATIONS
Despite the miserable
weather, the team dug in and got the car ready for round two.
Jim Young won his semi-final
race so it was up to Mendy Fry and Tim Cullinan to determine
who would meet him in the final.
Greenwood's burnout or
lack thereof was the first sign of problems.
After the failed burnout,
Greenwood's crew detected a problem and shut him off.
Fry had a single to the
final.
Fry ran an abbreviated
5.731 at 220.98 to set the stage for the final with Young.
